HYOWON LEE  B.Eng., M.Sc., Ph.D.

I was 21 years old when I completely switched all my reading from (translated) Korean to original English. Translated books are quite unsatisfactory because a lot of literary nuances and messages are lost in translation, and there are lots of great books originally written in English. I guess there's a point in learning English after all. My favourite authors include:
  • J. K. Rowling - Her Harry Potter series is the best I read in the past decade.
  • Arthur C. Clarke - I read 12 of his novels and the best one has to be The Fountains of Paradise (1979).
  • Emma Donoghue - her book Room (2010) is such a memorable one, it's on my Top Five.
  • Dean Koontz - read 10 of his books, best one: Sole Survivor (1997).
  • Maeve Binchy - one of my favourite Irish authors... A Week in Winter (2012) was quite touching, her last book.
  • Charlotte Bronte - her Jane Eyre is my favourite female character ever.
  • Margaret Drabble - I read The Millstone (1965) about 12 times (I've never read any one book this many times).
  • Stephen King - read 15 of his books, favourite one is Dolores Claiborne (1992).
