patents |
4
patents (2004, 2009, 2010 and 2011) that embody some of my interaction design efforts applied to Multimedia and Interactive TV . See the list of patents from European Patent Office.
|
app design |
I designed over 60 interactive applications that demonstrate novel interactivity and usage scenarios. Almost half of my research output is in the form of design artefacts/prototypes/applicaitons. That is, a large portion of my efforts is spent in the act of designing applications that pertain specific knowledge in themselves, typically accompanied by design rationale (typically shared by academic papers or seminar presentations). See a selection of the designs.

Interaction Design for Novel Multimedia Applications (1998- )
Interaction design (starting with conceptual design all the
way to detailed widget-level design) and subsequent usability studies
for novel demonstrators and deployed systems since 1999. See some examples of my designs. My experience in interaction design include:
- Web-based multimedia applications
- Communal Online VCR with recording and keyframe-based content browsing features (1999-2005)
- Daily news story archive for searching, browsing, playing, recommendation of news videos (2002-7)
- Video
searching/browsing system based on simple semantic features
(indoor/outdoor, speech, monologue, music, landscape/cityscape, text
overlay) and ASR text (2001- )
- Video searching/browsing system using relevance feedback based on keyframes and semantic features (2001- )
- A
series of object-based searching/browsing systems that allow the user
to interact with automatically detected objects within video content
(2003-6)
- Photo-visualisation
for LifeLogging data - leveraging automatic determination of novelty
and events captured by SenseCam wearable camera (2004- )
- Museum artefact browsing interfaces that uses novel object-matching technique (2006- )
- Video
blogging interface design - Web interface design for blogging/photoware
systems that incorporate automatic and semi-automatic indexing
techniques (2007)
- Visualisation of Sentiment Analysis in financial sector (2009)
- Search application for Dublin Port security with Number Plate Recognition technique (2009- )
- Mobile multimedia applications
- Smartphone/tablet UIs (2005- )

of work among multiple users and coordination), design space
construction followed by the design of novel TableTop interfaces that
supports these issues (2005-7)
- Interactive TV interface design for multimedia
